A downloadable game

Sunstained is a game about the present. You play a community as they try to survive in a world experiencing catastrophic climate-change and crumbling authority.

Over the course of 2-4 hours you will make decisions about your community, attempting to balance between population, culture, sustainability, and happiness.

This is a map-making story game with elements of progression tied to a community sheet. It was influenced by the following games:

  • The Quiet Year by Avery Adler
  • Apocalypse World by Vincent and Meguey Baker
  • Blades in the Dark by John Harper

Upgrading facilities improves the statistics of the community, which are called upon for dice rolls depending on the prompts generated by playing cards from the Oracle. It is possible you may not make it because of the choices you make or just bad luck.

This game was created for Applied Hope: The Solarpunk &

Utopias Jam in the summer of 2021. The game asks you what

does a sustainable civilization look like, and how do we get

there?

Hi, I have a question about the "Gather" move. On p. 9 of the pdf "Gather" is listed as one of five possible moves to take each turn. But on p. 20, there are only four actions listed and explained (Scout, Build, Celebrate, and Dissent). What is the "Gather" move and how does it work? On p. 21 it mentions that the "Gather" move can be used to increase the Supplies statistic. But how, exactly? I would love to run this game by am very confused.  Thank you so much!

Hi Pop!

Gather is the same as Scout. I believe I used Gather to differentiate visiting an already explored or marked location on the map, but it still exists in certain parts of the game as you've caught!

Hope that helps!

That does help! Thank you so very much!!
